Greetings,
2011 was an interesting year at Ruidoso Valley Economic Development Corp. We have seen our economy stabilize somewhat but at a lower baseline than the previous years. As a community, we have had to endure challenging economic situations and circumstances. At RVEDC we are optimistic for the future and have begun ground breaking efforts to insure our region’s future success.
Below is a list of our accomplishments and goals for 2012.
RVEDC ACCOMPLISHMENTS BY INITIATIVE
RVEDC and Community Development
• Local Economic Development Amendment (LEDA) adopted by Village of Ruidoso
• RVEDC Now recognized as sole economic developer for Village of Ruidoso
• RVEDC is recognized as the Economic Development entity for the NM Partnership
2011 RVEDC and Small Business and Entrepreneurship development
• RVEDC & WFS (Workforce Solutions) create approximately 17 in-demand full time jobs with benefits from
employer locating to Ruidoso and Lincoln County
• Regional hospital opening a local clinic guided by RVEDC to available commercial space
• RVEDC connects Workforce Solutions with regional hospital
• WFS screen , train and certify applicants
• Regional hospital employs WFS candidates
• Assisted with the establishment of a startup, light manufacturer of patient hydration systems.
• Assisted with the sale of The Stitching Post, Sacred Grounds and The Wagon Wheel, a new printing and
design business and Viva New Mexico
Recreation / Tourism / Diversification
• RVEDC participation in IMBA (International Mountain Bike Association) grant writing
• RVEDC has served as the fiscal agent for the NM Sports Authority local events
• The Sprint Triathlon experienced its most successful year in 2011
• Supported and assisted with accommodation arrangement for the UNM Lobo Football Training Camp,
Tour de Ruidoso bicycle race, Ski Run Road Challenge and other outdoor sporting events.
• Assisted with the execution and development of the Grindstone multi-use trail system
RVEDC and Small Business and Entrepreneurship Development
• Assisted with self-employment and small business skills courses
• Inaugural summer course developed 3 small business or self-employment ventures
• RVEDC, WFS and ENMU connect to design a variety of small business and career development
courses throughout 2012 corresponding with development grant funds through the Southeastern New
Mexico Wind Advisory sub-council
RRVEDC and Renewable Energy
• RVEDC assisted in hosting the Lincoln Renewable energy conference
• Raised funds for Renewable Energy conference
• RVEDC, ENMU & WFSU to offer renewable energy construction certification coursework to supplement
construction trades programs
• RVEDC and WFS seeking in-demand renewable energy companies to recruit locations in Lincoln County
• Working with local Congressmen and Senators to secure grant funding for renewable energy projects and
new business start up
RVEDC and the local Film Commission
• RVEDC assisted with the development of the inaugural film group late 2009 as Fiscal Agent for the
Village of Ruidoso. The group developed into a self-sustaining organization; Film Lincoln County.
• RVEDC provided fiscal agent services for Film Lincoln County in 2010 and 2011
Future/Near Term Goals/Projects for 2012
• Assist the Village of Ruidoso in becoming a certified community under the Certified Community initiative.
This task is of the first and highest priority for 2012 as certifying the Village of Ruidoso will open
opportunities to qualify for various Rural economic development, infrastructure grants and other sources
of assisted funding.
• Continual collaboration with the NM Partnership and State of NM Economic Development Dept. for small
to medium sized business recruitment to Lincoln
